French lawmakers vote to ban short domestic flights Posted: French lawmakers have voted to ban short domestic flights covering distances reachable in two and a half hours or under by train. The vote, which took place on Saturday, is part of a larger climate bill with which France seeks to reduce its 1990-level carbon emissions by 40 per cent over the next ten years. "We know that aviation is a contributor of carbon dioxide and that because of climate change we must reduce emissions," says Agnes Pannier-Runachershe, France's minister for industry. Next, the bill will go to France's Senate for a final vote. |
