Proof We're Living in a PKD Novel

Apparently in this case it's 'A Scanner Darkly.' From the AP:

"If you're a cop and you're arresting people and you're confiscating the marijuana and keeping it yourself, that's bad. That's real bad," said City Councilman Doug Thomas.

Not only did the officer confiscate the pot, in a karmic twist worthy of the Vast Acting Living Intelligence System, he and his wife got so paranoid after making brownies with said cannabis sativa that he called 911 to report an overdose. Of course the scanner caught it all, from the transcript of the 911 call:

Sanchez:I think I'm having an overdose. and so is my wife.
911: Overdose of what?
Sanchez: Marijuana...
Sanchez: We made brownies. and I think we're dead. I really do...
Sanchez: Time is going by really, really, really slow...
Sanchez: What's the score in the Red Wings game?
911: I've got no clue, i don't watch the Red Wings.
Sanchez: I just wanted to make sure this isn't some kind of hallucination I'm having.

"What PKD Story Are We In Today" concept straight-up stolen from palmer_eldritch over at frolix_8

Update: My buddy David Pescovitz over at boingboing remarked in an email, "The fact that he asked her a question about the sports game score to test if he was hallucinating is so PKD it's nuts." That's true, but perhaps it would be even more Dickian if you could hear the operator's metal teeth clicking on the line...

Update 2: This whole episode reminds me of one of Dick's bad trips as recounted by Ray Nelson in Sutin's biography:

"Nelson recalled that during his trip [on LSD] Phil was sweating, feeling isolated, reliving the life of a Roman gladiator, speaking in Latin and experiencing a spear thrust through his body."

Dick recalled the experience in a 1967 letter:

"Fortunately I was able to utter the right words, "Libera me, Domine," and hence got through it. I also saw Christ rise to heaven from the cross, and that was very interesting too (the cross took the form of a crossbow, with Christ as the arrow; the crossbow launched him at tremendous velocity - it happened very fast, once he had been placed in position)."
